Demand a Cushion Cut Diamond

A cushion cut diamond is also called a pillow cut. It was the main way diamonds were cut for about 70 years and it is only recently that diamonds started to be cut in different styles.

The cushion cut has an open culet, the bottom of the diamond, and there is a rectangular shape to the stone. The way the facets are cut provides depth to the stone.

The original diamond cushion cut was designed to catch the light of flickering candles. Today’s diamonds are cut to catch the electric lights and therefore have a different depth to them. With a cushion cut diamond, the facets let your eye travel into the stone itself and seem to be have a more calming and soothing effect that today’s diamonds.
