A Diamond Engagement Ring
The Promise of Eternal Love

Giving a diamond engagement ring is the traditional way for a man and women to promise to marry and to love each other forever. There are many different styles of diamond engagement rings as well as different types of diamonds.

For example, you can have the normal clear diamond or a more expensive colored diamond. In addition, the type of diamond cut influences the setting that you choose in the engagement ring.

Some of the diamond cuts you can have include:

  • Emerald cut
  • Marquis cut
  • Square cut
  • Princess cut
  • Oval cut
  • Round cut

The Setting For Your Engagement Ring

An engagement ring usually has a solitaire diamond, which can be alone or accompanied by several diamonds on each side. The height prong setting is the one most often used where the diamond rises above the metal of the ring. There are six prongs to hold the stone in place. You can have the diamond just a small ways above the ring, but there is also a tall prong setting that you can choose. In this setting, the diamond sits high and shows off nicely, but is usually not suited for daily wear because it can easily get tangled in clothing and cause the prongs to wear.

The common prong setting consists of two prongs on either side of the diamond so that it forms a type of basket to hold the stone. This design allows the maximum amount of light to reflect off the diamond. This setting also works well if you have diamonds all around the band. The prongs are hidden so as to give the impression of a continuous row of precious stones.

Some engagement rings use a bezel setting for the stone. This means that a metal rim encircles the diamond to hold it in place on the band. This is a really good choice for the girl with an active lifestyle, but wants to wear her ring every single day. There are also many choices in wedding jewelry when you buy both the wedding and the engagement ring as a set.
