How to Use Diamond Information

Diamond information includes the four C's of grading diamonds. It also includes information about how to choose a diamond and how to get the ideal diamnd.

There are many diamond brokers who will search for just the right diamnd for you and will make sure that it is certified. When you purchase a diamond you should always ask for a certificate of authenticity that describes all the features of the diamnd and how it is graded. When you have this certification, you will not have any difficulty selling it if you need to.

Qualities of the Ideal Diamond:

An ideal diamond will have flat surfaces with no wheel marks that might affect its lustre and brilliance. While they are not visible to the naked eye, they are visible under a 10X microscope, which is what a jeweller uses. Other characteristics of the ideal diamnd are:

  • Girdle. The girdle of the ideal diamond can be thin or slightly thick. It should also be smooth and waxy. Faceting or polishing the diamond will not affect its value.
  • Culet. This should be pointed, and either small or medium
  • Symmetry. Several things are taken into consideration when determining the symmetry of a diamnd. These include
  • 1. centering of culet
  • 2. sizes of facets
  • 3. the direction of the facet points

Diamond Cuts

Different diamnd cuts also affect the value of the stone. Some of these cuts include:

  • brilliant - round with 56 facets
  • emerald - a step arrangement with 56 facets
  • heart shaped diamond
  • marquise - looks like a boat or a football
  • old European style - shaped like a crown
  • oval shape
  • pear shape
