Determining the quality of the diamond for a necklace

Both the price and the quality of the diamond are determined by the four C's of diamonds. These are:

• Carat: This is how much the diamond weighs. The higher the carat, the more money you will have to pay for the pendant.
• Cut: The way the diamond is cut and set in the necklace also determines its worth. For example, you can have a Princess cut, a Marquis cut, and Emerald cut or one of several other cuts.
• Color: A perfect diamond has no color at all. However, some of the most expensive diamonds in the world are colored, such as pink, blue and green. The colorless diamonds are graded according to a letter D, E, or F and colored diamonds are graded from M to Z.
• Clarity: This refers to the defects in the diamond that you can see with the naked eye.

Since the diamonds used in pendants and necklaces are generally small in size, the clarity really doesn't count because it is too small to really see any defects. When a diamond is hanging from your neck and sparkling as your move around a room, no one wonders about the other C's because they notice how beautiful you are wearing the diamond necklace.
