Buying a Diamond Ring Signifies Commitment

Buying a diamond ring is probably the most important purchase that most men will ever make. This is because a diamond ring is usually an engagement ring that means that marriage is in the future for the couple. Even after marriage, a ring with diamonds in it is also a great anniversary ring to reaffirm the vows of love and commitment made on the wedding day.

Which diamond cut is the best for a ring?

Most people do not realize that the cut of a diamond does not refer to its shape. It refers to the proportions of the diamond, such as its depth and uniformity. These properties determine the brilliance and clarity of the diamond and some cuts are better for certain settings in rings and other pieces of diamond jewelry.

Some of the properties that jewellers look for in diamonds include:

  • Width and depth. These properties affect how well the diamond catches and reflects the light. Women like to have rings and jewelry where the diamond sparkles when they move, this drawing attention to the jewelry they are wearing. If a diamond is too shallow the light appears to go through the stone and is not noticeable. If it is cut too deep, the light goes out through the sides of the diamond making it look dark. The perfect cut for a diamond is one that bounces the light off the top.
  • Symmetry. The symmetry of a diamond in an engagement or anniversary ring refers to the flat and polished surfaces. When diamonds flash, this is called scintillation and it occurs when light bounces between all the facets of the diamond.
  • Polish. All the surfaces of a diamond should be polished so that light can pass through them.
