In order to tell a cubic zirconia diamond from the real thing, one would have to use a magnifying glass with the ability to magnify the stone about 10 times.

The difference is that the facets of a cubic zirconia diamond do not point the same way and does not have the same flaws as a real diamond. It is almost impossible for anyone, other than a jeweller, to tell the difference between the two.
